Hand Loomed Cotton/Linen Towels
Functional woven art with a unique Provincetown artistic provenance.
Saskia Grooms' grandparents, Chaim and Renee Gross, landed in Provincetown in 1943 as part of a tribe of New York artists who found summer refuge here. They continued to call it their part time home until their passing. You will surely know Chaim's sculpture, "The Tourists" in front of the library. Her mother, Mimi Gross, is a lifelong Provincetown artist and resident (recently featured in the Provincetown Independent). Saskia and her daughters live in Vermont but have always considered Provincetown their home-away-from-home.
Saskia learned weaving at the Putney School and often uses patterns inspired by the Jane Stafford School of weaving. Using a yarn called cottolin which is 60% cotton/40% linen, often in an open huck lace pattern which has a wonderful three dimensional texture, her towels have a more casual, "gather round the counter" feel that encourages you to use them. The combination of cotton and linen combines the strength and absorbency of linen with the soft feel of cotton to make these towels the perfect combination of beauty and functionality.
Towels measurements vary from 27"x18" to 30"x24"; note sizing on each option. Machine wash delicate, tumble dry low or line dry. Some shrinkage may occur with washing.
