Steel Slice and Sterling Silver Pendant Necklace

Metallurgy verging on alchemy. 

A large textured slice of darkened steel oval piping is linked together with a brushed sterling silver hoop, creating a fascinating contrast of metals, shapes, and textures. 

The maker is a trained metalsmith who has studied blacksmithing. This classic metalworking technique combining steel with sterling silver is rarely encountered in jewelry making. While the sterling silver frame and chain will remain the same, the steel will oxidize and subtly change colors with time, wear, exposure to water and salt, allowing you to enjoy the magic of metallurgy over time. 

Pendant measures 1" in length by 3/4" wide, suspended from an 18" ruthenium coated sterling silver chain that is diamond cut to expose the sterling on the edges. Ruthenium is similar to platinum in stability and does not tarnish or wear off, which means the chain should always look like new.
